Painful symptoms of the knee and hip can directly relate to poor foot posture and alignment. If a foot rolls in excessively this can create abnormal rotational forces acting at the hip and knee. This increases the strain on these joints, and can lead to a range of pathologies and painful conditions.

Your Podiatrist will be able to assess if your foot type is contributing to your knee or hip symptoms. Knee pain is commonly encountered in running activities , bike riding and in children.

Common knee conditions our Podiatrist can assist with :

  • Patello femoral joint dysfuction( PFJ) where pain is experienced in the front of the knee cap
  • Iliotibial band syndrome( ITb)- a painful condition in the tissue on the outside of the knee
  • Patella tendonitis
  • Osgood schlatters- a condition seen in the growth plate below the knee in adolescents that are active and often exhibiting poor foot posture and strength.
  • Knee osteoarthritis.

Our podiatrists at Peninsula Foot Clinic will be able to assess your knee and hip complaints, and formulate an appropriate management plan. They will be able to assist you with strategies to care for your hips and knees. This could be through advice regarding core stability and exercise regimes, or a level of orthotic therapy.
