Sports Podiatry plays an integral role in Sports Medicine and injury management for the athlete. Experienced Sports Podiatrists at Peninsula Foot Clinic specialise in the assessment and treatment of foot and ankle disorders.

Different Sports and activity can apply high impact loads to the foot , contributing to injuries that prevent you from training and competing. Often working in conjunction with other health professionals your Sports Podiatrist will be able to determine if your foot posture or how you strike the ground is placing abnormal stresses on muscles, tendons and bony structures.

Whether you are presenting with pain or looking to prevent sports injuries as you increase your activity , at the clinic the Sports Podiatrist will have a keen interest in your walking or running biomechanics ( how you move ) to determine if your posture is a contributing factor or placing you at risk of injury. The assessment includes gait assessment with Video analysis and a physical examination of your structure. Commonly radiological testing is required to make an accurate diagnosis of your injury, which is key to a management plan or advice the Podiatrist offers.

Treatment of Sports injuries is variable but will include orthotic prescription, advanced treatments such as dry needling , Shockwave treatment, exercises, and footwear changes.

Common Sports Injuries:

  • Plantarfasciitis
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Stress fractures
  • Shin Pain
  • Knee Pain
  • Ankle sprains
  • Arthritis and Hallux Limitus
